Be A Hero Newsletter May 2009

Greetings to all our Heroes!

Make a donation towards the care of an orphan.  For as little as $33.00 you could provide housing, food and clothing for a child for an entire month! Click here for more information about donating

Summer’s finally here, and our HEROES are busy championing the cause of orphans, splashing their passion onto their friends, business associates and the public.

HERO RICK POGUE (a mild-mannered stockbroker at Raymond James by day) is hosting a golf tournament

in Kelowna BC

HERO EMILY BRUCE held an AWARENESS Day at Davis High School in Modesto, CA complete with a mock refugee tent! (She’s the cute redhead in the photo above)

HERO (and Napa Valley Language Academy Principal) DEB WALLACE’S FOURTH and FIFTH events for orphans(a golf tournament and a fellow teacher’s retirement dinner) will spotlight the children from war-torn DR Congo this weekend.
- A big gold star for Deb!!

Maybe you can’t adopt an orphan like Angelina did but you CAN put some action to your compassion- host a barbeque or an ice-cream party, hold a garage sale, organize a bike ride - whatever your imagination can conjure up.

You will be amazed at the immense satisfaction and joy you will feel, using your voice and your talents to help a vulnerable child.

Give us a couple of weeks’ notice, and we can send you posters, a custom powerpoint for your event, brochures, statistics, case histories and whatever else you need to tell people about the children who have no parents, no food, no protection from the elements, abuse and predators, no opportunity to attend school, no adequate clothing, no medical care, no one to take care of them … just email your name and phone number to info@beahero.org and we’ll help you get started!

HERO:

a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities
someone who fights for a cause
a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life

Construction is continuing on our Community Centre/ School/ Medical Clinic in Telpura, India. This facility is a large, 12-classroom school and assembly hall that will provide this community with a place for meetings; provide a venue for education including day school, night school, summer day camps for kids, literacy classes, well-baby clinics, preschool; and will function as a convention/retreat centre during the school breaks. We’re excited about the possibilities and opportunities for this very poor neighbourhood of India. For further information about this project, or if you want to help the poorest, lowest caste people of India, click here

First Floor: kitchen, dining hall, washrooms Second floor: assembly hall, manager’s quarters

The team that took a Hero Holiday to Goma, DR Congo just recently returned. Above are a few of the photos they took at Mamma Jeanne’s Orphanage. Watch for a full report in next month’s newsletter.

Father’s Day is coming up in June. Give your father something he’s always wanted—another child! Just kidding but why not sponsor an orphan in his name? He’ll enjoy knowing that a little one is safe and cared for more than he’ll enjoy another tie or dorky barbeque apron...click here to sponsor on-line securely. We’ll send him a photo and biography of the child, along with a note that it’s from you for Father’s Day. Just let us know in the Comments section of the form.

Be A HERO is a registered charity in USA, Canada and Australia. Tax receipts will be issued for all donations.
