Their new school, in the middle of one of the biggest slums in Philippines, is ALMOST done! Built for our resident orphans and children from the surrounding neighbourhood, this bright new school is a big improvement over the chicken coop they formerly used for classes. It represents a dream come true for many children who have not ever been able to attend school, and hope for parents that their children might be the generation that breaks the cycle of poverty.

All that’s left to do is install a big water cistern with a heavy-duty pump, paint the interior, install tile and baseboards, and finish the plumbing and electrical. BE A HERO is thrilled to announce a new project—continuing our partnership with Cambodian Hope, we are buying a four-storey building as a key piece in the rescue of girls from brothels.

Hope Transformation Centre will be a secure residential facility, providing young women with a safe place to heal, continue their education, and be trained for self-sufficiency in careers such as cooking, catering, tailoring, computers and cosmetology. Plans for the building include living quarters for the girls, a restaurant, a conference/ seminar facility, a wedding venue, and classrooms. Various business ventures will provide the girls with job skills and provide funding for the continued operation of the Home. Click here for the whole proposal. HEROES in the CONGO

Last month a Hero Holiday to Goma, Congo visited our children’s home and worked on the construction projects and the grounds, played with the children and prepared updates for our child sponsors. Most of the resident children are either orphans or were separated from their parents when their villages were attacked. They cherish any attention and affection.
