Projects FAQ

Project Fund-Raising

“Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that.” Norman Vincent Peale

Where do I start?

  1. Read Why We Do It? and State of the World. You may also wish to purchase Wesley Campbell’s DVD “Be A Hero – Mobilizing
Mercy and Social Justice for the End-Time Harvest”
or his book, “Be A HERO: The Battle for Mercy and Social Justice” There are other good resources available in the Resources section.
  2. Think about who you might share your passion for the orphans with – your co-workers, those in your church home group, your family, your sports team.
  3. Plan a time, location, and venue to talk to them – in the coffee room at work, in your living room.
  4. Prepare ahead by

a) downloading the PowerPoint Presentation

b) downloading the Be A HERO Promotional video (5.5 minutes)

c) the Project Proposal for the project you would like to support (or a few of them if you want the group to decide). (Click on Projects on the Home Page, choose the Project, and click on the Downloadable Version button in the sidebar

Your Presentation

a) Show the PowerPoint and Be A HERO Promotional Video to the group

b) Decide as a group which Project you would like to support. In the sidebar of each project is a link to the corresponding downloadable Project Proposal. Print out as many copies as you need.

c) Brainstorm what you might do together to raise funds (see the list of suggestions below)

d) Think about who you know that you might approach with a Project Proposal, inviting them to invest in the lives of the children. Remember, it’s not about how much money you can contribute as an individual, it’s about who you know! Everyone has heard about the 10 million AIDS orphans – they would do something about it if someone (like you!) gave them some concrete action to take.

Just Do It!

a) Plan your event, set goals and deadlines, make appointments with potential investors

b) If you need banners, brochures or other promotional materials, send an email to info@beahero.org, allowing 4 weeks for delivery.

c) Send us details of your event, and we will post in the Events section of our website, so that others in your region may attend and support you.

d) After your event, send us some photos and a summary of your event

e) When the building project is completed, you will see a complete report and photos on our website.

f) You might want to consider visiting “your” children’s home. We would be happy to help you make arrangements for a group visit.

Details

a) Have all cheques made payable to Be A HERO. It’s usually easiest to have one person collect all cheques and mail them together to our office. Each donor will be sent a tax receipt early in the following year. Make sure you include a note specifying which project you have raised funds for.

b) If you are having an event that includes partial purchase, and partial donation eg: a golf tournament, please call Be A HERO Head Office at (250) 717-1003  for further instructions.

Fund Raising Events

Here’s a few ideas to get you thinking:

  • Dinner and Auction
  • Restaurants – have each chef develop a special dessert that will only be served at a specified time eg Mother’s Day week.  Every time that dessert is ordered, the proceeds go to the charity. More restaurants = more $$
  • Marathon; half marathon
  • Ski Day – team and individual races, outdoor BBQ lunch, apres-ski party, raffle etc
  • Christmas tree or plant/flower sale
  • Fashion Show
  • Golf Tournament
  • Walk-a-thon
  • Fishing tournament
  • Snowmobile Fun Day
  • Day on a sailboat raffle
  • Relay race
  • All-You-Can-Eat Ice-cream Festival (with music, games, contests etc)
  • Team or individual swims
  • Kid’s Fun Day
  • Softball Tournament
  • Garage Sales
  • Bottle Drives
  • Head shaves – have a celebrity in your area agree to shave their head if you raise your goal.

Use these ideas as a starting point to come up with your own unique ideas and variations, or add a twist to suit your group or situation.

We encourage people to get together with their friends, co-workers, bible study or cell group etc. and do something.  You don’t need to raise the full amount for an orphanage eg: $15,000.00. Every little bit helps!

If you don’t feel you can raise money for a building project, $396.00 would support an orphan for a year, $792.00 would support 2 orphans etc.
