Hero Holiday Brazil August 2007 Report
It was a life changing experience for the almost 100 people from Canada, America, and England that traveled to Sao Paulo, Brazil in August 2007 with Wesley and Stacey Campbell. All participated in the “School of Mercy and Social Justice” with the goal to provide hands-on experience ministering to street children, youth in prison, orphans and those in slums.
The impact of the journey can be felt in the words of some of the individuals that had an opportunity to extend a hand to the struggling people of Brazil.
“All of the outreaches were tremendously rich in love and blessing and insight.
I was particularly touched ministering to the street people downtown. There are many children as well as adults who live in the streets. As we shared the Gospel
and prayed with a small group of children. There was one child who lay lifelessly on the sidewalk with his eyes crusted over. We were told he had just gotten out of prison the previous day. He had inhaled a glue based drug that would knock him out for three days. A young lady and I began to pray the life and love of Jesus into him, within ten minutes, he was awake and sober. Our interpreter assured us his life would never be the same. Praise God!
I also had the privilege to go with a team to a youth prison where the age of the inmates was 12-16 years old. Only one child was a Christian before the invitation to accept Jesus. I know of at least five who responded to the invitation As Stacey preached the Gospel. Many Others received prayer and prophetic words. As we were leaving, the kids lined the sidewalk and applauded. It was so precious. Most of the kids have no visitors or contacts with the outside world. What a blessing to come from America and spend time with "the least of
these".
My heart will never be the same.” - Kevin

I most enjoyed going to the slums and loving on the children who needed so much love and attention. This one little girl I was holding would not let go of me. I think she was scared that I was going to leave her. She has no shoes and her clothes were barely keeping her warm. My heart was so drawn to her I wished I could adopt her. Through such experience, I’ve gained a clear vision of what my calling is, which involves ministering to children - especially the poor and the abandoned.” –Rosie

“Looking into the eyes of the poor has also changed me. I want to put my faith to action and DO something for the poor when I am home. In Brazil I was able to visit the slums and see hope brought to peoples lives.” -Shawnella |

“I surely received so much more then I was able to give. I shall never forget the faces of the children, youth and adults that we met on the streets, in the orphanage, in the slums, and churches. I will never be the same. Thank you Be A Hero (Wesley and Stacey) for this opportunity to be part of your team.”
-Margaret
Highlights of the two week experience included the Solemn Assembly that was attended by over 11, 000 people throughout the day. Several of Brazil’s major spiritual fathers and mothers came to pray for their nation, including 86-year old Luiz Esqueliro, and beloved spiritual mother, Neuza Tioka. The generations came together in the spirit of Joel 2:16, all humbling themselves before God on behalf of the sins of the nation. Busloads came from virtually every state in Brazil to be part of turning their nation back to God. The manifest presence of God filled the building; people were weeping and worshipping before the Lord.
God continued to bless His children as Jason Upton thrilled over 7000 persons at the youth concert. People were inspired to be part of the solution to Brazil’s problems through music, incredible praise and worship.
Today, many ‘heroes’ all around the world are making a significant difference in the lives of those in crisis by a myriad of positive contributions. Be A HERO will re-ignite the latent desire within every human being to Be A HERO in the lives of those who are less fortunate, and create a continuing movement of volunteerism on behalf of those who are dear to the heart of God - the poorest of the poor
