Nehemiah Construction Ministries
Be A Hero is partnering with Nehemiah Construction Ministries to drill water wells in the Turkana region of Kenya.
Dave and Laura McElhinney, founders of Nehemiah Construction Ministries (NCM) became involved in caring for the poor in 2002 – first building a school in the Amazon, then a children’s home in Sierra Leone, and in 2004 a multipurpose building in Northern Kenya that serves as a community centre, pre-school, clinic and church. During their time in Kenya they became aware of the desperate plight of the people in the Turkana region. Since 2004 they have been supplying food, clothing, teaching materials and solar-powered laptops. NCM implemented a sewing school, with 10 grads in 2007, and 15 students in 2008. Through a partnership with the Great Commission Foundation NCM purchased a drilling rig at the cost of $100,000 and have begun drilling wells to provide clean, safe water to thousands. A total of $250,000 has been invested into the region thus far (programs, supplies, machinery, food).
