BAL VIKAS KENDRA

Be A HERO partners with Bal Vikas Kendra to raise funds for their building projects in Telpura India.

Since 1973, Bal Vikas Kendra (BVK) and New Life Ministries have engaged in both evangelistic and mercy ministries to the poor of North India. Founded by Emmanuel and Beulah Raj (3rd generation South Indian Christians who have been pioneering works since the late 1960’s), and their daughter, Helena Singh, this ministry has focused upon the rural regions of the Himalayan foothills and Punjab regions of North India. The two major thrusts of the ministry are:

1. Bal Vikas Kendra: Mercy arm of the ministry – BVK is caring for approximately 1200 destitute children in five children’s homes in India.  These children are now living in Christian children’s homes – cared for, being fed, clothed, and educated within a Christian context. After graduation, the students are given the opportunity for university education, career training and various apprenticeships. Since inception, over 3000 children have benefited from life in a BVK home. BVK has learned that the best way to evangelise an area is to meet the needs of the community, thus making them more receptive to their message.

2. New Life Ministries: Evangelistic arm of the ministry - The other major focus of BVK is New Life Ministries, which include church planting (to date they have planted 11 churches with an average weekly attendance of 1600, throughout the course of their ministry they have baptized more than 8500 believers); evangelism; leadership training; vacation bible schools (650 attended last year); care for the elderly; literature and audio distribution; building projects; youth bible groups; medical and health aid; Christian education and relief/aid work for earthquake, flood, and drought victims.
